Strengthening Family Communication & Navigating Transitions Remotely
“Feelings of worth can flourish only in an atmosphere where individual differences are appreciated.”
Virginia Satir, Pioneer of Family Therapy
is this you?You want a peaceful, connected home, but you’re struggling to break through constant household tension:
-
What's happening underneath: High relational stress and a fast-moving argument cycle where defensive reactions take over before anyone actually feels heard.
How Family Therapy Helps: We help families hit the pause button on hot conversations. We map out the exact cycle where things blow up so you can catch the escalation early, drop the defensiveness, and actually resolve the issue.
-
What's happening underneath: Transactional habits, screen-based distraction, and relational withdrawal that naturally creep in when managing daily logistics and parenting demands replaces intentional emotional connection.
How Family Therapy Helps: We help families transition out of auto-pilot "survival mode" and rebuild genuine presence within the home. In a structured, low-pressure environment, we create simple, realistic connection rituals and help family members express what they actually need from each other—without adding to the daily overwhelm.
-
What's happening underneath: Opposing parenting styles create systemic confusion. Kids often feel insecure when boundaries constantly shift, leading them to either act out, test limits, or feel anxious about taking sides between parents.
How Family Therapy Helps: Unlike individual or couples sessions alone, family therapy brings the full household dynamic into focus. We help parents establish a aligned, united front while working directly with the children to address how the mixed signals affect them. By bringing clarity to household rules and parental alignment, kids feel safer, boundaries become predictable, and overall family stress drops.
-
What's happening underneath: Role ambiguity, shifting rules, and loyalty conflicts. Kids often worry that accepting a stepparent means being disloyal to a biological parent, while stepparents struggle to find their place without overstepping or feeling sidelined.
How Family Therapy Helps: We help the whole family establish clear, respectful roles and household agreements. We work with biological parents and stepparents to build a cooperative parenting structure so kids feel secure, boundaries are explicit, and stepfamily adjustments happen without constant friction.

What's really happening: Your teenager is navigating the messy process of growing up and trying to figure out who they are, but they don't know how to do that yet without completely pushing you away. When you see them slipping away, it's natural to get anxious and reach harder. But to them, that extra effort can feel like hovering or an interrogation—so they retreat behind closed doors and screens to get air. You're both just trying to protect yourselves, but the gap keeps growing.
How Family Therapy Helps: We stop the exhausting cycle where you're chasing and they're running. We help you change how you step into their world so your teen doesn't feel judged or cornered. You'll learn how to give them room to grow while keeping a genuine, warm connection—so they feel safe opening the door and actually talking to you when life gets heavy.
It’s time for a changeIt Doesn’t Mean Your Family is Broken
When families go through major transitions, daily stress, or busy schedules, it’s completely natural to fall into protective patterns—whether that’s shouting, shutting down, or retreating behind closed doors. You aren't failing; your family system is just stuck in a loop that no longer works for you.
Family therapy provides a calm, neutral space to slow down those reactive moments, understand what everyone is actually trying to say, and rebuild a sense of warmth and predictability in your home.

Q&AHave more questions about Family therapy?
-
I use Structural and Strategic Family Therapy as needed for behavioral intervention along with Emotion-Focused and Narrative therapy for socio-emotional support.

Couples and family therapy often focuses on relationship dynamics, communication patterns, parenting challenges, and family systems rather than treating a single individual’s mental health diagnosis. Unfortunately, insurance companies generally require one person to be identified as the “patient” and require a diagnosable mental health condition in order to reimburse therapy services.
By remaining out-of-network, I’m able to work with couples and families in a way that reflects the relational nature of the work, without assigning unnecessary diagnoses or limiting treatment to what insurance will cover. This also allows for greater privacy, flexibility, and individualized care tailored to your unique goals and relationships.
-
Possibly. Some insurance plans offer out-of-network reimbursement for couples or family therapy, though coverage varies widely by provider and plan.
To explore reimbursement, you can:
Contact your insurance company and ask whether your plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits and whether couples or family therapy is covered.
After payment, I can provide a superbill that includes the information insurance companies typically require for reimbursement.
You submit the superbill directly to your insurance company through their claims portal or by mail.
If approved, your insurance company may reimburse you directly for a portion of the session fee based on your out-of-network benefits.
Because insurance companies often have specific rules regarding relational therapy, I encourage clients to verify coverage details directly with their insurer before beginning treatment.
-
In most cases, yes. Insurance companies generally require a mental health diagnosis in order to reimburse therapy services, even for couples or family therapy.
This means that if you choose to submit a superbill for reimbursement, one member of the couple or family must receive a diagnosis that becomes part of their medical record. Insurance companies may also require documentation showing that therapy is medically necessary for that identified person.
